What is a School Counselor?
School counselors create comprehensive school counseling programs that focus on student outcomes, teach student competencies and are delivered with identified professional competencies. The NHS counseling department provides support services for the entire school community.
NHS counselors assist students with their academic, social, and personal needs by monitoring student progress to ensure students meet graduation requirements. This includes direct student services, individual student planning, responsive services, and indirect student services. We refer students, when necessary and appropriate, to other services in Newton County School System such as special education, psychological services, social services, homebound instruction, etc. when necessary.
